Baby G’s Birth

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers — strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”

Birth Questions

Home birth, hospital or birth centre and why?

Hospital birth; although I would have loved a home birth, my husband and I needed fertility treatment help at a Fertility Clinic, so it is required follow-up and delivery by the obs/gyne there.

What would you like to share about your birth experience?

Birthing experience was unforgettable. I felt and experienced every sensation, as I did not have an epidural. I will birth that way for subsequent pregnancies as well. I had my husband there and our amazing Doula, Nicole Carter – now we know just what to do.

What was the best part of the first month with “G”?

Getting to hold and snuggle new born baby is an incredible thing. After nine months of wondering what your baby will look like you finally get to meet what God created for you.

What was the most challenging part of the first month?

Challenges in the first month for us was dealing with effects of jaundice and phototherapy. Our little one became dehydrated and needed IV fluids and bottle-feeding became necessary. Hopefully will be able to breastfeed next time.

Words of advice for a new Mom?

Advice for new moms, have formula ready if that is needed for supplementation. Perhaps being prepared for that will give more confidence for breastfeeding if you know you’ve got the backup.
